J. Antonio “Malla” Maldonado is a producer, executive and entrepreneur; co-founder of the Producers Guild of America New Media Council and Founder and Principal of the Malla Entertainment Group (MEG)–a content development, film production, talent and brand management company. MEG has strategic partners and investments in the fields of motion pictures, television, music, and new media.
Mr. Maldonado grew up in New York City and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Film production from the City College of New York Picker Film Institute. His production experience began on the staff of WPIX-TV and The United Nations broadcast center. He relocated to Los Angeles in 1985 and worked in the cable television industry, marketing premium movie channels and basic services.
In 1987, Mr. Maldonado founded Malla Entertainment to assist a select group of developing musical artists further their careers. In 1997, as his clients found success, he co-founded Lightforce Films with a focus on film, music videos and new media production, overseeing the launch of three streaming websites dedicated to music, films and original content. His clients included Babylon AD, Bang The Drum, Jetland, Flesh and Vicious Fish.
Mr. Maldonado began his show business career as a songwriter, performer, producer and Capitol Records recording artist, Jay Malla, with the band “The Koala.” He co-founded and fronted several high-profile New York City bands in the 70’s and 80’s including The Koala, Magic Tramps and Revolver. During this time, he collaborated with producers Jerry Goldstein (“WAR”), Rupert Holmes, Glenn Matlock (The Sex Pistols) and Lew Futterman (Ted Nugent); and in 1980 was recruited as lead vocalist with the Joe Perry Project.
Mr. Maldonado also produced, wrote and directed Sidney Meyers Award winning film “Kiss of Deception.” In addition to his role at the Malla Entertainment Group, he is also Chairman and CEO of Filmmates Entertainment, Inc., and President of Royale Executive Limousine.
